Quick Answer: What Are the Best Financial Advisor Marketing Tools?

General-purpose platforms like HubSpot, Semrush, Canva, Hootsuite, Vimeo, and ChatGPT help advisors run email campaigns, social media, and content production efficiently. But independent advisors serving the mass affluent retirement market also need tools built for the actual conversation: client-facing Roth conversion and IRMAA analysis, annuity comparisons, legacy planning reports, seminar programs, and books that position the advisor before the first meeting. Stonewood Financial builds that second category, alongside training and a membership that bundles it all together.

Below, we’ll walk through six general-purpose marketing tools worth knowing. Then we’ll highlight the best tools built specifically for advisors serving the retirement income market – software and calculators, lead generation programs, books, and training.

Six General-Purpose Marketing Tools Worth Knowing

HubSpot: CRM and Marketing Suite

Combining a CRM with a marketing suite lets an advisor run email marketing, social media, content management, client engagement, lead generation, and analytics from one system instead of several disconnected tools. The standout feature is workflow automation: a trigger-based system that sends communication based on set criteria.

SEO Optimisation Semrush

For advisors looking to attract clients from both inside and outside their local area, SEO is essential. Semrush makes it easy to find keywords, research competitors and optimize both paid and earned rankings. The best feature is the Keyword Magic Tool. Discover what your prospects are searching so you can focus your content in those areas: “retirement advisor in my city” or “how will the new tax plan affect me?” The tool shows popular and niche search topics, helping you to create more targeted pay-per-click campaigns.

Canva: Graphic Design Template

You don’t need to be a graphic design major to create great brochures, infographics, social posts and presentations. Canva offers advisors pre-designed templates that can be customized with a practice’s logo, colors and copy. There are two outstanding features. Magic Resize enables any design to be instantly resized to suit multiple platforms and formats.

Hootsuite: Social Media Management

Social media can be a real growth channel for advisors, but managing and posting consistently takes time. Social media management platforms let an advisor schedule posts in advance, push content to multiple platforms, and track campaign performance from a single dashboard. Hootsuite’s standout feature is social listening, which monitors what’s being said about a practice and aggregates conversations related to finance, the market and retirement planning.

Vimeo: Video Platforms

Video marketing continues to grow, and advisors who publish good video content can share market insights, explain retirement planning fundamentals, and let some personality come through so prospects get a sense of what it’s like to work with them. Vimeo’s standout feature is interactive video enhancements, which let a viewer take action while watching: book a meeting, download a brochure, or ask a question, all without leaving the video.

ChatGPT: AI Copywriting

AI-written emails, blog posts, and newsletters won’t replace a strong writer, but today’s advisors are busier than ever, and AI copywriting tools can produce a workable first draft in seconds. Give the tool a tone and a few details about the desired next step, and it can draft, for example, a short email to a prospect who attended a seminar but didn’t book an appointment.

Next-Level Marketing

These are some of my favorite tools – genuinely useful, applicable to the key needs of independent financial advisors, and easy to implement fast. In fact, many advisors already have one or two in their stack.

But these tools are all marketing vehicles, and marketing vehicles need drivers – the content and messages that financial advisors distribute through these channels. A marketing tool is only as effective as the messages we’re sending through it. Are we delivering content on Roth conversions? IRMAA and Social Security timing? In today’s marketing environment, content is still king.

Once you’ve built your marketing machine, you need to power it. And here are my favorite tools to do so:

Powering Your Machine: : Calculators, Books, Seminars & More

The tools below were created by my company, Stonewood Financial. I know what you’re thinking: Of course you like these tools, you created them! And you’re not wrong. But WHY Stonewood created these tools is important.

We found many independent financial advisors were creating sophisticated marketing machines, and then were frustrated when those machines were underperforming. The challenge is this: finding the prospect is only part of the work – giving the prospect something of value that moves them toward an appointment is critical. So we set off to create the best-converting tax and income stories for financial advisors, and deliver those stories in all the ways you like to market. These tools work with the marketing you already have in place, and can be used with an IMO, any carrier, and any process you want.

Lead Generation: Filling the Pipeline

Financial advisors who can open the tax conversation with prospects and leads generate more appointments and more business. In fact, in today’s environment, taxes are often top-of-mind for higher-net-worth Americans, and can lead to Roth conversion conversations along with life and annuity sales. Here are the top three tools you can use to power your tax-based marketing.

Retirement Tax Bill (RTB) Lead Generator

The RTB Lead Generator is Stonewood’s flagship list-building tool. It delivers your own customized landing page and tax calculator, and connects leads directly to your calendar for appointments. The program includes content for your lead funnels and follow-up sequences. Advisors who build their pipeline around this tool find prospects arrive at the first conversation already focused on solving their tax problem, which shortens the trust-building phase considerably. It’s a perfect tool for email campaigns, social media, website traffic and more.

Seminars and Webinars

You got prospects to your seminar – now how do you get them to your office? Stonewood has created proven seminar and webinar content with powerful CTAs, driving more appointments from your events. Top-converting topics include: The Rising Tax Risk in Retirement, Washington’s Impact on Your Retirement, and Maximizing Your Legacy. Each is designed to both educate your audience and generate appointments, with a coordinated call-to-action that lets you offer a valuable analysis at their first meeting.

Marketing Toolkits

Stonewood’s marketing toolkits include brochures, email sequences, social media resources, and client-ready materials organized around key marketing themes. If you’re looking for content to plug into your marketing efforts, this is it. .From the risk of rising taxes and legislative changes in Washington to legacy planning and guaranteed income strategies, there’s a toolkit for all the topics you want to share.

Books: Position Yourself as the Expert

Books have increasingly become the star of many advisor’s branding campaigns. But the right book can also generate leads, shorten the sales cycle, validate proposed strategies, and create trust through subject authority. Of course, it takes time to write a book, and it’s hard to be an expert in every topic. So Stonewood did the work for you. We’ve created four books that you can customize as the author of the pre-written foreword. Each book is crafted to educate and create the need to meet with a qualified advisor like you. The books are available through Stonewood’s books program.

Software: The Industry’s Most Powerful CTA Reports

In financial advisor marketing, the call-to-action may be the single most important component of a successful marketing campaign. Whether you’re hosting seminars, marketing on social media, or creating email campaigns, motivating the prospect to meet is paramount. Stonewood reports were created to connect your marketing to your client services. They provide high-level analysis of today’s biggest retirement risks – from rising taxes to outliving income. More than 114,000 Stonewood reports have been delivered to American savers. Here are the four reports I find are most powerful as a marketing CTA:

Roth Done Right

Roth Done Right analyzes the tax and IRMAA impact of a Roth conversion. The report can be run in under 60 seconds, and does not require the prospect’s tax return. You can even model out different conversion patterns and evaluate a conversion’s break even point. Most powerful? The software generates an easy-to-read, easy-to-understand graphical output that motivates clients to act.

Annuity Alpha

Annuity Alpha helps overcome the #1 annuity objection: Are they a good deal? This tool compares the growth needed in a managed account to the guarantees provided in an FIA. In under 30 seconds, you can analyze longevity, income amount, and market growth, giving your prospects an apples-to-apples comparison that drives confidence.

Legacy Done Right

Legacy Done Right helps your client maximize their after-tax legacy, using life insurance or a blend of Roth and life strategies. Analyze the tax and IRMAA impacts of a conversion, and show how to optimize short-term and long-term success in one powerful strategy.

Total Tax Burden

Total Tax Burden is the fastest tool in our suite. It gives a saver a snapshot of projected taxes and potential tax savings without requiring a tax return. Many advisors run this report for every single prospect who comes into the office, as a way to open the tax conversation and show the value of their firm’s comprehensive approach for retirement planning.

Training and Coaching: Turning Leads Into Closed Business

A final thought on marketing for independent advisors: The end goal is more clients, not more meetings. And many advisors need help positioning their services for today’s market, tax, and savings environment. Training is critical for today’s advisors, and I’ve seen it first hand. Even advisors who have been in the industry for decades have grown their business with new strategies and new sales ideas.

So I’ll make a quick plug for Stonewood’s Innovate Conference. This is our flagship practice development event that brings together more than 100 top independent advisors from across the U.S. Over two days, we dive deep into tax strategies, income approaches, marketing systems, and sales language. It’s an investment in the most important part of your marketing funnel:

The software, marketing tools and training above are all part of Stonewood Membership, where today’s growth-minded advisors go for the proven sales strategies that convert. Real Advisors. Real Results.

See how advisors are using Stonewood software to win larger cases and deliver better outcomes for their clients.

An advisor was working with a prospect who was a real "do-it-yourselfer" when it came to Roth conversions. The client was converting assets up their existing tax bracket – and hadn't considered any impact to IRMAA.

With Roth Done Right, the advisor was able to show an alternate pattern that sped up the conversion to 6 years. The new structure offered $30,000 savings in conversion taxes – a 20% reduction on the prospect's conversion tax bill. The report also showed hundreds of thousands of dollars in long-term tax and IRMAA savings from the converted assets – an amount the prospect hadn't been able to quantify on his own.

Outcome

A new client with $1M in new AUM, and a $1M FIA sale to fund the conversion process.

An advisor was working with a prospect who already had assets with Ken Fisher. Fisher's team presented a 5% systematic withdrawal projection, so the advisor needed a stronger way to frame the income conversation.

Using the Annuity Alpha report, the advisor showed how an annuity could deliver over 8% in annual cash flow with lifetime income, plus a long-term care doubler. The contrast was clear enough that the prospect moved forward.

Outcome

$1.5M placed and a $100K in new business revenue.

An advisor was working with a 58-year-old couple with an established, well-funded retirement income plan, leaving an additional $3M IRA to build out a legacy for the kids. The couple's existing advisor had no real additional plan for this money, other than to keep it in their managed account and grow that money as much as possible for the kids.

Using the Legacy Done Right report, the advisor showed the need for tax planning on this $3M IRA. According to the advisor, the simple analysis "opened up the wallet" to the Roth conversion story. The advisor then used the blended Roth/Life feature in the report to show a blend of Roth Conversion assets with some Life Insurance to help maximize the client’s legacy.

Outcome

$3M in motion. The advisor picked up a $1.5M FIA sale that will be converted to Roth. And the advisor also sold a 5-Pay Protection focused IUL policy at $225,000 of premium per year.

An advisor group incorporated the Total Tax Burden report into the strategy presentation for all new prospects. They ran the tax snapshot for every new client as part of their first meeting conversation, quantifying the growing tax burden of IRA money – and illustrating the kinds of tax savings possible when working with their firm.

Starting in January of 2023, this simple analysis was presented to every single prospect who walked in the door. The goal was to differentiate their practice and drive overall revenue growth through various Roth conversion strategies.

Outcome

From 2022 to 2025, new annual AUM rose from $5M to $50M. Annual FIA sales rose from $3M to $35M. And annual life premium rose from $50K to $1M.
