Quick Answer: What Is Financial Advisor Book Marketing? Financial advisor book marketing means using a published or customized book, in print or digital form, as a working asset across the client journey: email nurture, seminars, webinars, website lead capture, social content, media appearances, client reviews, and referrals. Used well, a book gives prospects a low-pressure way to learn from an advisor before the first meeting, and gives the advisor a warmer, more consultative way to follow up than a straight ask for an appointment.
For independent financial advisors, retirement tax planning has become one of the most powerful conversations you can have with clients and prospects.
Why? Because taxes are personal. And for many savers approaching retirement, they are one of the biggest unknowns standing between the retirement they have planned for and the retirement they may actually experience.
That is what makes a strong educational book such a valuable marketing asset.
A book gives you a credible, low-pressure way to introduce complex planning topics. It helps prospects understand the risks they may be facing. It reinforces the value of working with an advisor. And when used intentionally, it can support every stage of your marketing and client relationship process.
Here are eight practical ways independent advisors can use tax-focused, client books like The Road Less Taxed to generate leads, nurture prospects, increase appointments, and deepen client relationships. Along the way, we will point out where Stonewood’s other three books fit a specific client conversation, since most financial advisor book marketing content treats “the book” as one generic asset instead of matching the right book to the right reader.
Stonewood’s Four Books, at a Glance
The experts at Stonewood have authored four consumer books that advisors use as seminar giveaways, lead magnets, and client-review gifts. All four are available through the Stonewood book program, and most of the tactics below work with all of them.
Book
Best Fit
The Road Less Taxed
Educates savers on the tax risk coming from Washington – and how to take control of their retirement assets . A natural companion to any tax-focused outreach or events, and a perfect compliment to your Roth conversion conversations.
The New Holistic Retirement
Examines retirement’s key challenges and how to overcome them. Market risk, income risk and tax risk are all covered for advisors who want to open a broader planning conversation with prospects and clients.
The No-Compromise Retirement Plan
Tells the tax-free life insurance story to Baby Boomers and near-retirees. Built for advisors who lead with the Roth message and want to expand the conversation to legacy planning.
The New Rules of Retirement Saving
Shares the tax-free savings message with today’s active savers. Useful for advisors working with clients who are still accumulating and have not yet shifted to a distribution mindset.
Here are eight practical ways independent advisors can use books to generate leads, nurture prospects, enhance appointments and increase wallet-share from their clients.
1. Using the Book in Email Marketing and Lead Funnels
Email is still one of the best ways to nurture leads, especially when the message is educational rather than a hard sell.
A book gives you a reason to reach out that offers real value and doesn’t feel promotional. Books are helpful in targeted campaigns to your database and as part of set email nurture sequences for new clients and prospects.
You can deliver your emailed book offer in multiple ways: Send prospects a free print copy, offer immediate access to a digital version of the book, or even send a sample chapter on a topic important to them.
The trick is to gift a book that can begin a conversation.
Books are great in email sequences because they offer something of value and make for natural follow up:
“Did you have a chance to read the book?” “Did anything in the tax chapter surprise you?”
“Would it be helpful to see the potential impact of these risks to your retirement income?”
Books give your prospects a more natural reason to engage with you.
2. Present the Book to Seminar Attendees
If you’re hosting tax-focused seminars, workshops, dinner events, or educational classes, a book can really boost the perceived value of the event.
You can distribute books at the door, place them on each seat, or give them as gifts after the presentation. The right book reinforces the message your audience heard at your event and gives them something tangible to take away.
For those attendees who schedule an appointment, the book keeps them engaged between the seminar and the appointment. It helps them remember why the conversation is important and why they need to meet with you now.
For attendees who did not schedule an appointment, the book is a natural follow-up. Your team can call and ask if they had a chance to look through it, if anything stood out, and if they would like to discuss how the issues covered in the book might apply to their own retirement.
Books create a warmer follow up than “Just checking to see if you want to meet.”
3. Use a Digital Book with Your Webinars
Webinars can be a great lead generation opportunity, and they create multiple opportunities to connect with prospects. Digital books give registrants and attendees immediate access to additional learning on the topics you’re covering.
For attendees who book an appointment, include the digital book in their meeting confirmation email. This gives them something valuable to review before the meeting and reinforces the topics you will discuss together.
For attendees who joined your webinar but did not schedule an appointment, send the book link as a follow-up resource. Position it as an additional way to understand the tax and legislative risks that could affect their retirement.
For registrants who did not attend, a digital book is a great way to make sure those leads don’t disappear. Send a note letting them know you missed them on the webinar, but you still wanted them to have access to the important ideas covered. Then link to the digital book.
The advantage of a digital book is speed. There is no mailing delay, no logistics issue, and no gap between interest and action, making it the perfect compliment to webinars and online events.

4. Add the Book to Your Website Lead Capture>
Most advisory websites ask prospects to take a very big step: schedule a meeting.
That is important, of course. But many website visitors are not ready to book a call the first time they land on your site.
A book gives them a smaller, easier step to take.
You can offer a complimentary hard copy through a pop-up or lead capture form. Or you can offer immediate access to a digital version in exchange for basic contact information.
This turns passive website visitors into known leads.
And because the offer is educational, it feels appropriate for prospects who are still early in the decision-making process. They may not be ready to sit across the table from you yet, but they may be willing to learn more about how taxes, Washington, and retirement policy could affect their financial future.
That gives you the opening you need to continue the conversation.
5. Turn the Book into Social Media Content
Social media works best when you give your audience something useful to engage with. A book gives you multiple ways to do that.
You can post about the book itself. You can share a key idea from a chapter. You can offer a sample chapter without requiring lead capture. Or you can use the full digital book as a lead-generation offer.
For organic social, a book can help position you as an educator rather than just another advisor posting generic advice.
For paid social, the book can serve as a stronger call-to-action than “schedule a consultation.” It gives prospects a reason to click, learn, and enter your marketing funnel.
Social messaging can also work well. If you are connecting with prospects through LinkedIn or another platform, a complimentary book offer can be part of your outreach sequence. Instead of leading with a meeting request, you lead with a gift of value.
6. Use the Book as a Call-to-Action on YouTube, Radio, and Podcasts
If you’re hosting a podcast, radio show or creating video content, you know the power of a simple call-to-action that listeners can remember and act on.
A book is ideal for these channels.
When discussing retirement taxes, invite listeners to request a complimentary copy of the book to learn more. They can call your office, visit a custom URL, or complete a form on your website.
This works especially well because a book feels substantive. It gives your media appearances more weight and gives listeners a clear next step – and a complimentary gift to drive their learning.
7. Use the Book to Drive Client Value and Wallet Share
Books are not just for prospects. They can also be powerful client relationship tools.
A great place to use a book is during annual reviews. Gift the client a copy and explain that the next step in protecting their retirement may be evaluating how taxes and legislative changes could affect the plan you have already built together.
Then schedule a follow-up conversation.
This creates a natural bridge into deeper tax planning conversations, additional analysis, Roth conversion discussions, legacy planning, annuity positioning, or broader asset consolidation.
For clients who have already implemented tax strategies with you, a good book still has value. It reinforces the decisions they have made and gives them greater confidence in the planning work you have done together.
It can also create referral opportunities. You can send the book to your client base and invite them to request additional copies for friends, family members, or colleagues who may benefit from the education.
It’s a simple, value-driven referral strategy that offers something of real value to the couples being referred to you.
8. Customize the Book to Build Thought Leadership
A book becomes even more powerful when it is connected directly to you and your practice.
Customized books allow advisors to position themselves as thought leaders in the areas of retirement tax planning, legislative risk, and tax-smart income strategies.
Stonewood’s book customization program is perfect for advisors who have always wanted their own book – but don’t have the time to write one. Customization attributes the book’s foreword to you, and your photo, bio and contact information are on the book. Your customized book is available in print and digital copy.
For prospects, seeing your name on a book builds credibility.
For clients, it reinforces that they are working with an advisor who understands today’s most pressing risks and is a thought leader in addressing them.
For your practice, it creates a professional asset that can be used across seminars, webinars, email campaigns, social media, client reviews, referrals, and media appearances.
All four of Stonewood’s titles are available to be customized for your practice: The Road Less Taxed, The No-Compromise Retirement Plan, The New Rules of Retirement Saving, and The New Holistic Retirement.
In as little as two weeks, you can have your name on the cover of some of the industry’s most powerful client education books. Learn more here →Stonewood book customization program.
How Books Drive Revenue
Independent advisors often ask whether a book program is worth the cost of production, printing, or customization. Books are one of the best tools to warm up leads and open conversations in your pipeline.
Advisors with a defined marketing plan generate 168% more leads per month from their websites and onboard 50% more clients per year than advisors without one, according to a Broadridge survey of 403 U.S. financial advisors.¹ A book is not a marketing plan on its own, but it works well as one component of a defined strategy, since it gives every other channel – email, social, seminars, media – a consistent piece of content to point back to.
That consistency matters for a second reason. Ninety-three percent of B2B marketers using original, research-based content say it is effective at driving engagement and leads, and 48% call it very effective, according to a 2026 survey of nearly 800 B2B marketers.² A book is one of the more durable forms of that kind of content, since it keeps working across email, seminars, and client reviews long after a single social post has scrolled by.
Common Mistakes Advisors Make With a Book Program
Excited to implement books into your marketing approach? Here are a few pitfalls to avoid:
Treating the book as a one-time giveaway instead of part of your system. Make sure to integrate follow-up sequences into your book campaigns to maximize their value and integrate them into your overall client journey.
Not connecting the book to your practice. The strongest financial advisor books open by addressing the reader’s real concerns, and include CTAs that guide a reader to reach out to a qualified financial professional like you.
Skipping the compliance step. A book used in outreach is marketing content should be used in accordance with your compliance requirements.
Skipping your follow-up. The book’s value comes from the conversation it starts. A book handed out without a planned follow-up call, email, or review meeting rarely produces the appointment on its own.
The Bigger Strategy: Make the Book Part of the Whole Client Journey
The right book can help build your list, nurture leads, and engage clients. It can increase appointment conversions, reinforce seminar and webinar messaging, and deepen confidence. And it can open new conversations about tax planning, wallet share, and referrals.
In other words, a book should not sit on a shelf. It should move through your marketing system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is financial advisor book marketing?
Financial advisor book marketing is the practice of using a published or customized book, in print or digital form, across the client journey: email nurture, seminars, webinars, website lead capture, social content, media appearances, and client reviews. It gives prospects a low-pressure way to learn from an advisor before committing to a meeting.
Should I use the same book for every client and prospect?
Not necessarily. A book written around Roth conversions may resonate more with a client near retirement, while a book focused on saving strategies may fit a younger, still-accumulating prospect better. Matching the book to the reader tends to make the follow-up conversation feel more relevant.
What is the difference between a generic book and a customized advisor book?
A customized book typically adds the advisor’s foreword, photo, bio, and contact information to an existing title, positioning the advisor as the source of the material rather than a general publication. This can strengthen credibility with both prospects and existing clients.
How does Stonewood’s books program fit into an advisor’s marketing?
Stonewood offers four published books, The Road Less Taxed, The No-Compromise Retirement Plan, The New Rules of Retirement Saving, and The New Holistic Retirement, that advisors use as seminar giveaways, lead magnets, and client-review gifts. Each book fits a different client segment, from savers still accumulating to clients weighing a Roth conversion or a broader legacy conversation.
What should happen after a prospect reads the book?
Most advisors follow up with a specific question about the book’s content, then move the conversation toward a client-facing analysis that applies the book’s concepts to the prospect’s own numbers, such as a Roth conversion or retirement income review.

outcomes for their clients.
An advisor was working with a prospect who was a real "do-it-yourselfer" when it came to Roth conversions.
The client was converting assets up their existing tax bracket – and hadn't considered any impact to
IRMAA.
With Roth Done Right, the advisor was able to show an alternate pattern that sped up the conversion to
6 years. The new structure offered $30,000 savings in conversion taxes – a 20% reduction on the
prospect's conversion tax bill. The report also showed hundreds of thousands of dollars in long-term
tax and IRMAA savings from the converted assets – an amount the prospect hadn't been able to quantify
on his own.
Outcome
A new client with $1M in new AUM, and a $1M FIA sale to fund the conversion process.
An advisor was working with a prospect who already had assets with Ken Fisher. Fisher's team presented a
5% systematic withdrawal projection, so the advisor needed a stronger way to frame the income
conversation.
Using the Annuity Alpha report, the advisor showed how an annuity could deliver over 8% in annual cash
flow with lifetime income, plus a long-term care doubler. The contrast was clear enough that the prospect
moved forward.
Outcome
$1.5M placed and a $100K in new business revenue.
An advisor was working with a 58-year-old couple with an established, well-funded retirement income plan,
leaving an additional $3M IRA to build out a legacy for the kids. The couple's existing advisor had no
real additional plan for this money, other than to keep it in their managed account and grow that money as
much as possible for the kids.
Using the Legacy Done Right report, the advisor showed the need for tax planning on this $3M IRA.
According to the advisor, the simple analysis "opened up the wallet" to the Roth conversion story. The
advisor then used the blended Roth/Life feature in the report to show a blend of Roth Conversion assets
with some Life Insurance to help maximize the client’s legacy.
Outcome
$3M in motion. The advisor picked up a $1.5M FIA sale that will be converted to Roth. And the advisor
also sold a 5-Pay Protection focused IUL policy at $225,000 of premium per year.
An advisor group incorporated the Total Tax Burden report into the strategy presentation for all new
prospects. They ran the tax snapshot for every new client as part of their first meeting conversation,
quantifying the growing tax burden of IRA money – and illustrating the kinds of tax savings possible
when working with their firm.
Starting in January of 2023, this simple analysis was presented to every single prospect who walked in
the door. The goal was to differentiate their practice and drive overall revenue growth through various
Roth conversion strategies.
Outcome
From 2022 to 2025, new annual AUM rose from $5M to $50M. Annual FIA sales rose from $3M to $35M.
And annual life premium rose from $50K to $1M.
